We are looking for an experienced tax professional (5+ years) to join our team and help us build out our tax department. In this leadership role, you would serve as a strategic tax/business advisor to our clients, manage key operations and projects, and develop Journey’s tax team.
You will make a significant impact in the following areas:
Client service/relationship management – Providing excellent tax preparation and advisory services to clients, including but not limited to:
- conducting reviews of federal and state income tax returns for corporate, S corp., partnership, and individual clients to ensure completeness, accuracy, and risk mitigation.
- managing IRS and state examinations and notices related to individuals and business entities.
- providing innovative tax planning strategies and compliance advice to clients.
- cultivating strong relationships with existing clients to make them/their business feel valued and deeply understood.
Team member development – Identifying and developing current and future leaders in the firm, helping them identify and align their unique skills and interests to firm/market opportunities by:
- establishing clear and realistic goals/KPIs for the tax department and team.
- assigning and organizing work among team members to ensure successful and accurate completion of on-going tasks and special projects.
- Providing ongoing mentoring and feedback to team members
Firm growth – Building out new and expanding current tax offerings to take the firm to the next level, including:
- identifying innovative, market-aligned services we can add to our portfolio of offerings.
- identifying ways to incorporate new technology ,trends, and best practices to improve operational processes.
- partnering with the Journey leadership team to identify and acquire new clients as well strategic new services that complement and enhance other Journey service offerings.
Your qualifications should include:
- a proven track record as a tax professional in a public accounting setting (5+ years)
- a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- an active CPA license
- fluency in Microsoft Excel
- supervisory experience and/or professional coaching experience is preferred
You should possess:
- significant knowledge of tax compliance and all types of tax returns
- a keen ability to determine how and where to find answers about ever-changing tax code and laws
- exceptional client service skills
- a familiarity with payroll taxes
- a genuine drive to grow professionally
- excellent communication and project management skills
- a passion for training and mentorship
- capabilities to think strategically and innovatively in the field of tax
Other important requirements and details:
- You must be willing to work out of the Grand Rapids, MI or the Woodridge, IL office.
- This is a full-time, exempt position, so you may have to work hours that exceed the standard 40-hour work week (especially during tax season).
- This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
