Preschool teachers teach young children several years before they enter kindergarten. They help kids learn basic concepts used in elementary school, including letters, numbers, colors and shapes. Preschool teachers also create a safe environment and establish daily routines to help children adjust to attending school.
Common duties include:
- Establishing and enforcing rules for classroom behavior, such as quiet periods
- Planning lessons and activities according to the school’s curriculum
- Teaching children age-appropriate concepts
- Overseeing classroom activities, including playtime, breaks and meals
- Maintaining a clean and welcoming classroom
- Supervising children and ensuring their basic needs are met
- Creating interactive activities to help children build social skills, such as obstacle courses or arts and crafts
- Maintaining classroom materials and supplies
- Tracking and reporting students’ progress to their families
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
