Position Summary
Coyne Oil & Propane is seeking a dependable and organized Parts & Preventive Maintenance Technician to support our internal fleet maintenance shop.
This is a hands-on shop position combining parts coordination and inventory management with preventative maintenance and basic mechanical repairs. The successful candidate will help ensure our mechanics have the correct parts when needed while also assisting with routine maintenance and repairs throughout the shop.
This is not a full-time parts-counter or office position. The employee will spend a meaningful portion of each week working directly on company vehicles and equipment.
Our internal fleet includes propane bobtails, fuel delivery trucks, transports, service trucks, pickups, trailers and other company equipment.
Primary Responsibilities
Parts and Inventory
- Source and order parts for fleet vehicles and equipment
- Work with vendors to obtain competitive pricing and timely delivery
- Receive parts and verify orders for accuracy
- Organize and maintain the shop’s parts inventory
- Establish and maintain appropriate minimum inventory levels for commonly used parts
- Track parts ordered for specific vehicles and repair jobs
- Prepare and stage parts for upcoming scheduled repairs
- Process warranty claims, cores, returns and credits
- Identify opportunities to standardize parts and reduce unnecessary inventory
- Maintain and keep fleet maintenance records
- Assist in the cargo tank testing procedures
Preventive Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment
- Complete oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement and routine inspections
- Inspect brakes, tires, lights, fluids, belts, hoses and other vehicle components
- Perform basic mechanical, electrical and equipment repairs within the employee’s ability
- Assist other mechanics with larger repairs and shop projects
- Document completed maintenance and repairs accurately, upload/ document work orders in fleet software
- Keep work areas, tools and the parts room clean and organized
Position Priorities
The Parts & Preventive Maintenance Technician will be expected to:
- Keep mechanics supplied with the correct parts.
- Maintain an accurate and organized parts inventory.
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance and basic repair work.
Qualifications
- Mechanical experience involving diesel trucks, commercial vehicles, automotive equipment, agricultural equipment or heavy equipment is preferred
- Experience sourcing or ordering mechanical parts
- Basic understanding of vehicle systems and preventive maintenance
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
- Comfortable using computers
- Ability to communicate effectively with mechanics, vendors, drivers and supervisors
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Valid driver’s license
- Commercial Driver’s License is helpful but not required
- High school diploma or equivalent
Coyne Oil & Propane will consider candidates with strong mechanical aptitude who are willing to learn additional parts and inventory responsibilities as well as attend training to become a registered cargo tank inspector.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry parts, tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb and work underneath vehicles
- Ability to safely operate shop tools and equipment
- Ability to work in a commercial fleet maintenance shop environment
