POSITION TITLE: INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE RESOURCE COUNSELOR
Senior Network Services, Inc. (SNS) is a nonprofit multipurpose community resource agency providing senior citizens and persons living with disabilities with information, guidance and assistance in coordinating existing resources to promote independence and the highest quality of life. Through our seven unique direct services programs, Senior Network Services serves over 12,000 clients each year. A longstanding part of the non-profit community, Senior Network Services has served Santa Cruz County seniors since 1974.
Information & Assistance Resource Counselor (Watsonville & Santa Cruz/Soquel Locations)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Working with and supporting multiple SNS programs, the Resource Counselor provides older adults with same-day and ongoing services. The Resource Counselor provides information, assistance and referrals to older adult clients to assess client needs, assists in locating services, suggest alternative resources, and follow up to ensure adequate service delivery. The Resource Counselor may work from both the Watsonville Senior Center, as well as from SNS’ Santa Cruz (Soquel) office, conducting client work in-person, at a residence, via computer and by telephone.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Assists solder adults in-person, by phone, in residence and virtually, at the Watsonville Senior Center and SNS’ Santa Cruz (Soquel) office:
● Responds to requests for information, makes appropriate referrals to other community resources, informs about services available to older adults, and assesses need for additional SNS services;
● Assist clients with completing public benefits forms;
● Serves as point of contact for Senior Network Services at the Watsonville Senior Center as required;
● Provides support to SNS Case Management Programs;
● Maintains list of available community providers, resources and referrals;
● Creates an atmosphere of acceptance with clients, encourages them to share their concerns, and helps them to be specific in stating their needs;
● Addresses problem situations either independently or in consultation with other staff in order to provide maximum assistance to clients;
● Collects required data for reporting;
● Keeps required records and performs other clerical tasks as needed;
● Assists as back-up translator/interpreter for other SNS programs as needed;
● May participate in agency communications projects, including social media:
● Other duties may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
● Bilingual Spanish/English ;
● Minimum High School diploma or equivalent, two years of social services or direct client services experience; A.A./B.A. or higher strongly preferred;
● Knowledge of available older adult services, including community services and public benefits, preferred but not required;
● Sensitivity to the needs of older adult clients’ ability to communicate clearly and to create an atmosphere of trust;
● Strong attention to detail;
● Ability to collaborate and work cooperatively with other staff and community agencies;
● Ability to work independently and off-site from your team and supervisor;
● Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot with minimal supervision.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
● Willingness and ability to work in either the Watsonville or Santa Cruz (Soquel)SNS offices;
● Excellent computer and technology skills;
● Valid driver’s license and fully insured, reliable vehicle necessary;
● Fingerprinting and background check required;
● Must provide a completed COVID-19 vaccination card, with or without accommodation.
HOURS/BENEFITS
● Full-Time: 40 hours/week
● $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
