We are currently seeking a full-time Dental Assistant to support the Dental Clinic at Naval Station Great Lakes, the U.S. Navy's largest training installation, located in North Chicago, Illinois.

Minimum Qualifications
Successful completion of one of the following:
- Certificate or Associate Degree as a Dental Assistant/Dental Technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA), with 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months; OR
- Graduation from a military dental technician or dental assistant training program, with 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months; OR
- Completion of a Red Cross Dental Assistant course, with 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months; OR
- 36 months of experience within the preceding 60 months as a Dental Assistant in a private practice or military clinic; OR
- Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants, including required continuing education, and 12 months of experience within the preceding 36 months; OR
- Graduation from a state-accredited Dental Assistant or Dental Technology program within the preceding 12 months.
Certification
- Certification in Dental Radiography required
Experience
- Minimum of six (6) months of Dental Assistant experience following graduation
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgery, endodontic, and periodontal procedures.
- Schedule patients and prepare treatment areas.
- Obtain and document patient medical histories and treatment information.
- Maintain dental records and prescription documentation.
- Sterilize instruments and prepare treatment and surgical trays.
- Ensure dental equipment is clean, maintained, and operational.
- Perform authorized intraoral procedures under dentist supervision, including:
- Taking preliminary impressions for study models
- Removing sutures
- Placing and removing rubber dams, periodontal packs, matrix bands, and wedges
- Provide patients with post-treatment instructions and oral hygiene education.
- Operate dental radiographic equipment to obtain intraoral and extraoral images.
- Maintain and perform routine care of radiographic equipment and materials.
- Pour and trim dental models and fabricate custom impression trays.
- Prepare and maintain recurring reports and administrative records related to clinic operations.
