Are you looking for 100 or more days a year on a fire assignment? Call us! Outback Firefighting is hiring experienced, dependable Engine Bosses for the upcoming fire season. This is a leadership role in fast-paced, physically demanding fire environments. The Engine Boss is responsible for the safety, supervision, and operational effectiveness of an engine and crew during wildfire suppression and prescribed fire operations.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead the assigned engine crew personnel
- Ensure crew safety, accountability, and adherence to LCES and risk management standards
- Operate and oversee wildland fire engine operations
- Communicate effectively with Forest Service Supervisors and company administrators
- Assign and monitor crew tasks during suppression activities
- Conduct daily briefings and ensure the crew understands assignments
- Oversee engine readiness and cleanliness while on assignment
- Ensure proper documentation, time reporting, and incident paperwork
- Maintain equipment accountability and compliance standards
- Maintain clear, professional communication with the office by submitting required reports and replying to emails promptly.
Schedule and Deployment:
- On-call position
- Must be available to deploy for up to 14 days when dispatched
- Long hours are common during assignments
- Food and lodging are provided while on assignment
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- DOT medical card
- Copies of certificates & task books showing qualification as ENGB (Single Resource Engine Boss)
- RT-130 Annual Refresher (company can provide training)
- NWCG Arduous Pack Test (company can administer pack test)
- Proficient in operating handheld VHF radios

Pay: $800.00 - $850.00 per day
