What will you do?
The Logistics Clerk is responsible for coordinating transportation activities to ensure the timely and cost-effective movement of goods. This position serves as a key liaison between customers, carriers, vendors, warehouse operations, and the sales team. The role focuses on freight quoting, shipment scheduling, delivery performance management, routing coordination, vendor pickups, and customer-related transportation charges.
What are the key responsibilities for this role?
Transportation Coordination

Obtain and compare freight quotes from carriers and transportation providers.

Select the most efficient and cost-effective transportation options based on customer requirements.

Schedule and coordinate inbound and outbound shipments.

Arrange vendor shipment collections and ensure timely pickup of materials.

Monitor shipment progress and provide status updates to internal stakeholders and customers.

Re-route shipments as needed to meet delivery requirements or resolve transportation issues.
Carrier Management

Develop and maintain positive relationships with carriers and transportation partners.

Monitor carrier performance, including on-time pickup and delivery metrics.

Work with carriers to improve service levels and reduce transit delays.

Investigate transportation issues and implement corrective actions.

Escalate recurring performance concerns to management and transportation providers.
Customer and Sales Support

Collaborate with the Inside Sales team to identify and apply freight-related charges, expedited shipping fees, detention charges, redelivery fees, and other transportation-related costs.

Ensure all transportation charges are accurately communicated and documented.

Support customer delivery requirements and special shipping requests.

Communicate shipment schedules, delays, and service updates to customers when necessary.
Order and Documentation Management

Create and maintain shipping documents, bills of lading, carrier manifests, and transportation records.

Verify shipment information for accuracy and compliance.

Maintain records of freight costs, carrier invoices, and delivery performance.

Process transportation documentation in company systems and record-keeping platforms.
Performance and Continuous Improvement

Track key logistics metrics including on-time delivery, freight costs, transit times, and carrier performance.

Recommend process improvements to reduce transportation costs and improve service.

Assist with logistics projects and supply chain initiatives.

Support inventory movement planning between warehouses and customer locations.
Compliance and Safety

Ensure compliance with company transportation policies and customer requirements.

Follow applicable transportation regulations and shipping procedures.

Maintain confidentiality of customer, vendor, and company information.
