Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take dental radiographs (X-rays) while ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
- Conduct vital signs assessments such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature to monitor patient health status.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term dental health.
- Manage electronic health records (using Dentrix), ensuring accurate documentation of patient visits, medical history, and treatment plans.
- Maintain infection prevention protocols by adhering to HIPAA regulations, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures for dental equipment.
- Support medical imaging processes and ensure proper handling of medical records in compliance with healthcare privacy standards.
- Collaborate effectively with the dental team to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient care experiences.
Qualifications
- Valid Dental Hygienist license in accordance with state regulations.
- Proven experience in dental office settings, including general dentistry and pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with dental software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and EMR management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control practices.
- Skilled in chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry to enhance efficiency during procedures.
- Ability to accurately perform X-ray procedures while maintaining patient safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control protocols, including HIPAA compliance management.
- Familiarity with medical coding, documentation review, and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
