Job Purpose
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing and coordinating the development of new technology and electrical/hydraulic system component improvements into our special commercial vehicles and mobile equipment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
· Develop and optimize electrical and control components and systems to provide maximum customer value and equipment function. Including safety of operation and operational performance, at optimum costs.
· Develop, from scratch, and optimize machine control logic and HMI’s (Structured Text)
· Perform technical calculations to support designs including electrical requirements, safety standards and motor/hydraulic controls.
· Conduct experiments and tests on new and existing designs and equipment to obtain data on function and performance of equipment.
· Conduct technical calculations and analyze data to develop new system designs using electrical and related mechanical, hydraulic, and electromechanical components.
· Work with management to determine product specifications for new equipment development
· Work with management to develop cost/margin analysis for new products.
· Conduct engineering activities related to product design, including drawing creation, machine controls development, engineering specification reviews, engineering cost estimates, proper development timing, and support testing.
· Direct and coordinate manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes and customer requirements.
· Direct validation activities on components and equipment under designated conditions to ensure operational performance meets design specifications.
· Coordinate with suppliers to determine target milestone and completion dates.
· Address supplier design issues, problem resolutions, engineering reviews, data analysis, potential engineering changes, and component timing.
· Assist in service calls for troubleshooting issues.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
· Minimum five (5) years in manufacturing environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills
· Experience in low volume/high mix industry preferred.
· Experience in heavy commercial equipment industry is preferred.
· Solid knowledge of electrical and control engineering principles.
· Experience with Structured Text Programming preferred
· Working knowledge of engineering hydraulic system components.
· In-depth experience in creating drawings and schematics for control systems, panel boxes and routing / installation layouts.
· In depth knowledge of vehicle standards, systems, processes, testing and regulatory requirements.
· Must be able to work at both a strategic and tactical level.
· Previous experience in successfully leading major projects from inception to production, with demonstrated proficiency in managing, organizing and holding others accountable to time and cost requirements.
· Ability to work effectively in complex situations and critical deadlines.
· Able to effectively work collaboratively, and cross-functionally, with sales, production and the executive level, to communicate and resolve complex issues.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficient in MS Office,
· Proficient with CAD software(s) including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor.
· Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities
No internal direct reports. May direct the work of both internal and external resources such as manufacturing resources engineering team members.
Work Environment
Primarily a professional office environment, with frequent collaboration among engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams. Occasional visits to the manufacturing floor, warehouses, or outdoor job sites may be required for information gathering or product documentation. Exposure to moderate noise, dust, and fumes is possible in production areas or field locations; appropriate safety gear should be used as needed.
Physical Demands
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard, and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Specific vision required includes close vision and the ability to adjust focus, essential for reading documentation and computer work. Fine motor skills and dexterity sufficient to assemble small components may be necessary from time to time. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible. Works indoors most of the time. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space.
