Bésame is seeking a talented Sous Chef to work directly alongside our Head Chef in leading one of Steamboat's premier kitchens. This is a hands-on leadership role for a chef who enjoys cooking, mentoring others, and delivering exceptional food in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
As Sous Chef, you will be the Head Chef's right hand—helping oversee daily kitchen operations, maintaining consistency, supporting the culinary team, and ensuring every guest receives an outstanding dining experience. This position is ideal for someone ready to grow professionally while working with an experienced culinary leader.
Responsibilities
- Work side-by-side with the Head Chef during daily service.
- Assist in leading, training, coaching, and motivating the back-of-house team.
- Execute and maintain the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Assist with daily prep, production, ordering, inventory, scheduling, and food cost control.
- Help maintain labor and food cost goals while minimizing waste.
- Train and mentor kitchen staff while fostering a positive, team-oriented culture.
- Ensure all health, sanitation, and food safety standards are consistently met.
- Step into a leadership role whenever the Head Chef is unavailable.
- Assist with seasonal menu development, specials, and recipe execution.
- Help maintain an organized, clean, and efficient kitchen at all times.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of culinary experience with previous kitchen leadership responsibilities.
- Current ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification required, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
- Strong cooking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
- Passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout long shifts.
- Professional appearance, positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliable attendance.
