WVAH/WCHS- TV, in Charleston, WV has an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer! This position involves maintaining broadcasting equipment from transmitters to computers and servers all related to television transmission, media aggregation, automation systems, as well as business-side workstations and directly responsible for hands-on support of all broadcast equipment. In addition, the candidate would be responsible for ensuring the station operates in compliance with FCC rules and regulations while overseeing FCC requirements and completing FCC duties in a timely and accurate manner to maintain the station’s FCC license.
Responsibilities included but not limited to:
- Maintain and repair the station and all broadcast and supporting equipment as needed.
- Provide support in the management of equipment in multiple facilities.
- Assist with transmitter and microwave maintenance as necessary.
- Provide digital I/O support including installing, servicing, updating, and repairing of associated equipment as necessary.
- Address signal transmission maintenance and repair requests as required.
- Respond to issues regarding facilities maintenance to include but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, grounds, etc.
- The possibility of unexpected and/or late-night calls for engineering emergencies.
- Act as the subject matter expert and point of contact for all things as it relates to equipment and technology, as well as stay up to date on the new industry standards.
- Implement, install & maintain engineering systems and provide end-user support across all departments and logging as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Associates degree or higher in IT, electronics or computer related field or equivalent work experience.
- 2 - 4 years of related broadcast experience recommended.
- A great team-oriented attitude and dedication to quality and performance.
- Strong ongoing interdepartmental commitment to support organizational objectives.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills are a must.
- Effective interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to navigate differing viewpoints with professionalism and constructive communication.
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge and competency in core hardware and computer system technologies, including installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and LAN/WAN networking.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting problems and responding quickly under pressure.
- Valid & unencumbered driver’s license to operate station vehicles and reliable and dependable personal transportation to fulfill engineering duties.
- Satellite uplink operation skills a plus.
