Position Summary
The Project Field Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating field operations for commercial office installation projects, including office furniture installations, reconfigurations, relocations, and decommissions. This position serves as the primary field leader, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, professionally, and according to customer expectations, project schedules, and company standards.
The ideal candidate is an experienced field leader who can manage crews, coordinate with customers and project teams, solve problems in real time, and maintain a high level of quality in an active commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Field & Project Leadership
- Lead daily field operations for commercial office installation, relocation, reconfiguration, and decommission projects.
- Supervise installation crews, drivers, equipment, product, and other field personnel as assigned.
- Conduct daily jobsite briefings and clearly communicate project scope, priorities, safety requirements, and expectations.
- Review project plans, drawings, floor plans, scope documents, and installation requirements before and during projects.
- Coordinate the sequence of work to keep projects moving efficiently and within budget.
- Monitor manpower, productivity, materials, tools, equipment, and jobsite conditions.
- Identify potential schedule, labor, material, site conditions, or scope issues and communicate them promptly to the Project Manager or Operations Manager.
- Make practical field decisions and resolve installation issues while maintaining project quality, budget, and customer satisfaction.
Customer & Jobsite Coordination
- Act as the primary field point of contact for customers, facility managers, general contractors, designers, and other onsite representatives.
- Maintain a professional relationship with customers throughout the project.
- Conduct jobsite walkthroughs before, during, and after work as needed.
- Verify completed work against the approved scope and identify punch-list items.
- Communicate changes in site conditions or customer requests to the appropriate internal team before proceeding with out-of-scope work.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.
Installation & Quality Control
- Oversee the installation of commercial office furniture, workstations, private offices, conference rooms, reception areas, storage systems, and related products.
- Ensure installations are performed according to manufacturer specifications, drawings, layouts, and company standards.
- Inspect completed work for quality, alignment, functionality, appearance, and completeness.
- Ensure furniture and equipment are properly protected during installation, relocation, and decommission activities.
- Identify damaged, missing, or incorrect materials and coordinate resolution with the appropriate team.
- Ensure punch-list items are documented and completed in a timely manner.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company safety policies and safe work practices on every jobsite.
- Conduct or participate in daily safety meetings and job hazard assessments.
- Ensure crews properly use PPE, tools, ladders, carts, lifts, and other equipment.
- Maintain awareness of building-specific safety requirements, loading dock procedures, elevator restrictions, access requirements, and customer protocols.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, property damage, unsafe conditions, or other incidents according to company procedures.
- Promote a safety-first culture and hold field personnel accountable for safe behavior.
Materials, Equipment & Logistics
- Verify that required materials, hardware, tools, equipment, and documentation are available before work begins.
- Coordinate deliveries, staging, loading docks, elevators, and material movement as required.
- Track material shortages, damages, returns, and excess materials.
- Ensure tools and company equipment are properly maintained, secured, and returned.
- Coordinate removal, disposal, recycling, or storage of furniture and materials during decommission projects.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete daily field reports, time records, jobsite photos, punch lists, delivery documentation, and other required project documentation.
- Provide accurate updates to Project Managers and Operations regarding job progress, manpower, completion status, and issues.
- Document site conditions and scope changes with photographs and written notes.
- Review completed work with the customer or designated onsite representative when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records needed for project closeout and billing.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in commercial installation, office furniture installation, commercial moving, construction, facilities, or a related field.
- Previous experience supervising or leading field crews.
- Strong understanding of commercial office environments and jobsite operations.
- Ability to read and interpret floor plans, furniture layouts, installation drawings, and project documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
- Comfortable working with hand and power tools and commercial installation equipment.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with project management and operations teams.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and maneuver commercial furniture and equipment as required by the job.
- Willingness to work varying schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight work when project requirements dictate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial office furniture systems and modular workstations.
- Experience with office relocations, reconfigurations, and decommissioning.
- Experience working in Class A office buildings, high-rise buildings, schools, libraries, residential, or occupied commercial facilities.
- Experience coordinating with general contractors, building management, facility managers, and union or subcontracted labor.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus but not required.

Physical & Work Environment
This is an active field position requiring frequent movement throughout commercial jobsites. The employee may be required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs or ladders, and lift or maneuver furniture and equipment. Work may take place in occupied offices, construction environments, warehouses, loading docks, secured and restricted access facilities, and high-rise commercial buildings.
Work Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, with flexibility required for project schedules, including occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight assignments.
Location: Chicago metropolitan area; regular travel to customer jobsites throughout the Chicagoland region and occasionally surrounding states.
