About the Program: La CASA's gallery space offers an intimate setting for art viewing and community connection, featuring rotating exhibitions by local and regional artists. In addition, we host Sábados de Galería, our monthly event series that invites visitors to engage more deeply with the work through art-making activities, conversational gatherings, and extended viewing hours.
Position Description:
GALLERY OPERATIONS & VISITOR EXPERIENCE
- Staff and monitor the gallery during open hours, serving as the primary point of contact for visitors
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional gallery environment
- Track visitor engagement and maintain accurate visitor logs
- Provide information on exhibitions using interpretive materials and guides
- Lead informal tours and facilitate conversations around exhibitions
CURATORIAL SUPPORT & EXHIBITION DEVELOPMENT
- Conduct research on artists, cultural contexts, and exhibition themes
- Assist in drafting interpretive materials (wall texts, labels, guides, and communications
- content)Support exhibition planning, installation, and deinstallation processes
- Collaborate with Arts Program staff on conceptual development and programming
PROGRAMMING & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Assist with workshops, public programs, and gallery events
- Participate in IBA wide events and festivals (e.g., community celebrations and cultural programming)
- Support outreach and audience engagement efforts, including basic social media tasks
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
- Provide general administrative support to ensure smooth gallery operations
- Assist with data tracking and documentation of visitor engagement and program outcomes
- Complete additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to engage diverse audiences in a welcoming and informative manner
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
- Interest in curatorial practice, exhibition development, and community-based arts
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with online research tools
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or design tools preferred
- Interest in social media for arts engagement is a plus
Additional Qualifications
- Knowledge of Latinx arts, culture, and community-based practices preferred
- Spanish language skills preferred but not required
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, community-focused environment
Support / Supervision:
- This position will receive ongoing mentorship and support from the IBA Arts Program Director through:
- Weekly virtual check-ins
- Biweekly supervision meetings focused on planning, reflection, and professional development
Expected Work Hours per Week:
10 hours per week
Work Schedule:
IBA can be flexible and will accommodate the student's availability during our program hours:
- Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm
- First Saturdays (extended hours) 1:00pm - 4:00pm

PLEASE NOTE:
This position is part of the PartnershipWORKS program offered through MassArt's Center for Art and Community Partnerships (CACP). If you are hired for this position, you will become a member of the team at your community site AND a member of the CACP student cohort. You will have two supervisors, one through your host site and a second through CACP..
The requirements for holding a PartnershipWORKS position through CACP are:
- Commit to your position for the entire academic year (fall + spring semesters)
- Participate in monthly PartnershipWORKS sessions throughout the year, facilitated by CACP staff
- Complete time sheets in a timely manner, every two weeks
- Provide photo documentation of your work at your host site
- Thoughtful completion of all CACP evaluations
- Maintain communication with CACP staff regarding any challenges and/or successes related to your experience at your host site
