Position: Law and Public Safety
Evaluated by: Principal/Assistant Principal responsible for CTE
Job Description: The Law and Public Safety teaching position focuses on methods used by public safety leaders to protect a democratic society. The history and organization of the criminal justice system and issues relating to the administration and practice of law and public safety in a culturally diverse society are explored. Strategic Security and Protection; and Courts and Legal Systems.
Qualifications:
1. Have knowledge and documented experience in Law Enforcement and foundational principles of Public Safety Leadership including:
a. Public policy issues such as crime and justice
b. History, organization and functions of components of public safety
c. Problem solving techniques and hands on activities to develop understanding of Public Safety Leadership
d. Utilize technology tools that integrate learning skills and skills sets
2. Have knowledge and documented experience in Law Enforcement in Ethical Practices and Public Safety Leadership including:
a. Philosophical issues and applications of Public Leadership of Constitutional limitations, accountability and liability; criminal investigations; criminal procedures; and forensics
b. Societal and Psychological stressors that contribute to behavior
c. Analysis of critiquing of the system of dealing with convicted persons and the long term implications of corrections policy
d. Procedures for implementing criminal law of the Incorporation Doctrine
3. Have knowledge and documented experience in Law Enforcement and the Practical Application of Public safety including:
a. Theory and Practice by interacting with Public Safety professionals
b. Public safety of ethics, teamwork and professionalism
c. How to Construction of a portfolio that can be used to obtain jobs in Law Enforcement and Public Safety
4. Have knowledge in the Corrections Field
5. Have knowledge and documented experience in Law Enforcement
6. Have knowledge and documented experience in Courts and the Legal System
7. Have knowledge and documented experience in Strategic Security and Protection
***PREFERENCE OF FIVE YEARS EXPERIENCE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND PUBLIC SAFETY
Length of Employment: 200 Days
Responsibilities: The Law and Public Safety Teacher shall have the following responsibilities and duties:
1. Be able to efficiently teach and incorporate ALL the foundational principles as outlined under QUALIFICATIONS
2. Be technology proficient to incorporate and integrate classroom instruction with Technology Tools
3. Personal qualifications and abilities needed to be effective with children
4. Relate skills and abilities to possible career pathways
5. Dress appropriately, be punctual
6. Investigate methods of teaching and participate in staff development educational workshops, seminars, conferences to maintain knowledge in Public Safety and Law Enforcement
7. Possess strong Communication Skills
8. Demonstrate personal and classroom safety practices, policies, and procedures
9. Practice ethical characteristics in the classroom and with all internet and social sites
10. Be willing to participate and encourage student participation in Career and Technical education Student Organizations
11. Develop and Advisory Council with Public Safety and Law Enforcement members
12. Develop a list of clinical sites with Public and law Enforcement agencies to place students in Experiential Learning internships, job shadowing, field trips, community service opportunities
13. Work effectively with the school administration and co-workers to promote student learning
14. Successfully fulfill the educational requirements to be hired for this job
15. Successfully maintain educational requirements to retain employment with the Wayne County Board of Education
