Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit dental insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility prior to treatment to facilitate smooth billing processes.
- Accurately assign Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) codes and other relevant medical codes to ensure proper reimbursement.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective communication with insurance providers and patients, utilizing medical collection techniques.
- Maintain detailed medical records and documentation related to billing activities, ensuring all records are complete, accurate, and compliant with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with dental staff to clarify treatment procedures and coding details for precise billing.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations affecting dental billing practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical or dental billing with a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding practices.
- Familiarity with DRG, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and medical coding principles specific to dental procedures.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and record management.
- Knowledge of medical collection processes and effective follow-up strategies to resolve outstanding balances.
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or dental practice is highly preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
