Bowen Machine Company is seeking an experienced, motivated, and dependable 2nd Shift CNC Lead Machinist to lead our evening machining operations. This individual will be responsible for keeping production running efficiently, supporting other operators, troubleshooting issues, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring production goals are met.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of CNC machining and setup experience (5+ years preferred for a lead role)
- Ability to independently write, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs
- Experience with Mazak and Haas CNC mills and Mazak CNC lathes
- Strong setup, tooling, and troubleshooting experience
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate Mazak and Haas CNC mills and Mazak CNC lathes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, work instructions, and process documentation.
- Select tooling, workholding, fixtures, and cutting parameters for efficient production.
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
- Maintain tight tolerances and ensure all parts meet customer and quality requirements.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, fixture, and machine issues to minimize downtime.
- Support, assist, and troubleshoot other machinists and machine operators throughout the shift.
- Train and mentor operators on machine setup, inspection techniques, quality standards, and safe operating procedures.
- Prioritize production to meet customer schedules and delivery commitments.
- Communicate production status, quality concerns, tooling needs, and machine issues during shift handoff.
- Monitor tool life, offsets, and machine performance to maximize uptime and reduce scrap.
- Diagnose machine alarms and coordinate repairs or maintenance when necessary.
- Verify tooling, fixtures, raw material, and programs are production-ready before jobs begin.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including coolant checks, lubrication, chip removal, and housekeeping.
- Complete required production, inspection, and ISO 9001:2015 documentation accurately.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, reduce setup time, minimize scrap, and increase overall productivity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience with Mazak and Haas CNC mills and Mazak CNC lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Proficient with calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, height gauges, depth gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling selection, feeds and speeds, and quality inspection.
- Ability to independently edit CNC programs and optimize machining processes.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
