NURSE
Summary of Job:
Kingsway Services, Inc. (KSI) is a Day Habilitation Program serving adults with diverse challenges, age 21 and over. Many of the adults who receive services from Kingsway Services, Inc. have physical, intellectual, and behavioral challenges and require full-time support as well as significant physical assistance with one or more activities of daily living, ranging from toileting and personal care, choosing weather appropriate clothing, navigating their environment, and mobility assistance to direct support in the program area. All program employees are members of a team that provides a supportive environment for all Kingsway Services, Inc.’s clients.
Under the Program Manager, the Nurse is responsible for the routine and emergent health care for all clients of Kingsway Services, Inc. As a member of the day program team, the Nurse provides support for clients with developmental disabilities. The Nurse develops, implements, and coordinates nursing services by providing screening, evaluation, assessment, and individualized interventions, adaptations, accommodations, modifications, strategies, and supports. Working with clients with disabilities and serious health impairments, the Nurse is expected to analyze risks, problem solve efficiently, and demonstrate a high level of professional judgment when recommending or providing services, making environmental modifications and training staff to manage health needs at an appropriate level of oversight. Consultation with day program and community personnel is also an essential component of the Nurse’s responsibilities. This is a highly collaborative position that requires the nurse to integrate clinical expertise into the KSI setting including, but not limited to day program, community locations, and various modes of transportation.
Due to the varying physical needs of the individuals attending KSI’s day program, it should be noted that this is a physically demanding position.
Background Qualifications:
- Must hold and maintain current New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse (RPN) license
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 1-3 years experience with a special needs population is desirable
- Successfully complete and clear all required State/Federal Criminal Background checks.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clear DMV check.
Physical Requirements
Due to the very significant needs of the individuals, the Nurse must be able to lift and position consumers and equipment safely while performing job responsibilities. Because of the varying size, weight, and strength of such consumers, Nurses must be able to:
- Routinely lift 40lbs. Unassisted
- Push, pull, bend, and twist on a routine basis in order to handle individuals’ routine needs as well as emergent situations
- Ability to be assigned to program areas and individuals of varying ability levels and varying physical and other support needs
- Must complete all components of required staff training and on-site orientation

Evaluation:
At minimum, an annual evaluation will be conducted by the Program Manager of the individual’s ability to competently perform professional responsibilities and duties to meet professional standards.
Nurse Responsibilities:
- Submit driver’s license for approval and be prepared to operate Kingsway Services, Inc. vehicles for transport purposes, both to and from the program and community settings.
- Attend staff in-services, functions, and meetings that require staff attendance.
- Maintain a positive and professional appearance and conduct, whenever in a position representing Kingsway Services, Inc.
- Ensure that all communication with parents, guardians, or other external stakeholders of Kingsway Services, Inc. regarding the consumer or other program aspects are professional and conducted in a manner consistent with KSI policies and procedures, while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality.
- Clinical supervision of nursing needs, care plan development and maintenance for th clients.
- Creation, completion and maintenance of nursing policy and procedures.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely fashion, maintaining complete and accurate documentation and records (scripts, medications, client health records, etc.).
- Carry out any other related responsibilities or assignments as determined by the Program Manager or Program Administrator.
- Assist and protect consumers in an emergency or crisis situation, complete appropriate documentation following any medical emergency or crisis situation, with supervision from Program Manager and/or Program Administrator.
- Keep the program area neat, clean, and safe during and after the days’ activities. Ensure that all materials are properly cleaned at the end of each day.
- Keeping all medication safely stored both in the program and offsite according to DDD regulations.
- Ensure that staff have proper medication for individuals leaving the facility
- Attend community outings and events to support individuals’ medical needs as dictated by the Program Manager and/or Program Administrator.
- Maintain a single point of contact (Program Manager and/or Program Administrator) for all client related issues/concerns brought to attention by clients, family members, Support Coordinators, Physicians and others who may be seeking or delivering information regarding the client.
- Provide health assessment of consumers and follow-up as needed.
- Communicate concerns for clients' health status to parents and/or guardians.
- Provide direct health care services of first-aid, emergency care, administration of prescribed medications and treatments, maintaining complete and accurate documentation of services provided as needed (MARs, etc.).
- Ensure that internal Incident Reports are completed with the Program Manager and/or Program Administrator
- Participate in scheduled meetings with parents, staff members, administration, and other members of a consumer’s Interdisciplinary Team, as needed.
- Oversee promotion and maintenance of a safe, healthful environment in the program, including the maintenance and monitoring of supplies and medications in the health office and throughout the program.
- Recommend to the Program Manager and/or Program Administrator policies and procedures for health services.Provide assistance in the following areas:
- Instruction of all staff on communicable diseases
- Training, direction, and supervision of the emergency administration of epinephrine for designated program staff.
- Review and summarize available health and medical information regarding the consumer and transmit to or present the summary to the Interdisciplinary Team as requested
- Scheduling, facilitation, oversight, and documentation of staff training as required by the Division of Developmental Disabilities, including but not limited to:
- CPR/First-Aid/Bloodborne Pathogens
- Epi-Pen/Diastat Administration trainings
- Medication administration
- Universal Precaution
Salary maximum is based on a number of years of relevant experience.
