Oz Visions is currently seeking experienced SFX supervisors for commercial and branded content work in Austin, Texas, with potential involvement in music videos, narrative productions, television-grade advertisements, live events, and future development related to The Four Quarters franchise.
This role is intended for individuals with outstanding expertise in chaotic practical effects, and ideally demonstrated knowledge of techniques from figures like Neil and Chris Corbould, Joe Lombardi, Richard Taylor, Douglas Trumbull, John Dykstra, Lorne Peterson, Ray Harryhausen, Greg Jein, Brian Johnson, and similar elite artists.
The process begins with an introductory meeting to determine mutual compatibility and working chemistry. If aligned, select candidates may be invited to sign a non-binding letter of intent establishing them as a recurring collaborator for future productions and client projects facilitated through Oz Visions.
Initial work will be project-based and contractor-oriented, with the ultimate goal of transitioning key collaborators into permanent positions as the company expands.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience across medium-to-large-scale commercials, music videos, or narrative productions
- Ability to oversee the SFX department from development through delivery
- Knowledge and expertise with atmospheric, mechanical, destruction, blood, fire, smoke, rain, optical, and other practical effects, with an emphasis on safety and coordinated workflows
- Capable of building rich, unique effects for secondary world high-fantasy settings
- Existing industry network and outreach capabilities within Austin or relevant markets, specifically but not exclusively in the SFX department
- Skill with advanced miniatures is a plus but not mandatory
Portfolio quality will be the primary determining factor in our evaluation process, though applicants are encouraged to include a resume along with their portfolios outlining relevant experience and previous productions.
