Position Summary
The Safety & Training Supervisor is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing all aspects of safety, training, and development for Kawahara Nursery, Inc. The goal of this position is to consistently improve the overall safety, well-being, and workplace for all employees and third parties. This in-person position will be based in Morgan Hill and Gilroy and may travel off-site to retail locations that our company services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with federal, state, and local safety standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, and state-specific agricultural regulations such as Cal/OSHA).
Safety Policies & Protocols: Implement, train, and manage internal policies and protocols including ICS, WVPP, AST, SP, CUP, PIOP, EERP, and Sick.
Safety Committee Risk Assessments: Lead team(s) to perform routine, on-site inspections of facilities, machinery, and working conditions, as well as off-site inspections of retail locations. Also, assess high-risk areas including tractor operations, chemical storage, and ladder safety.
Safety Training & Education: Design and deliver bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) safety programs for agricultural workers and supervisors on topics such as heat illness prevention, pesticides, hazardous communication, and ergonomics.
PPE & Equipment Management: Monitor the proper procurement, use, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and heavy machinery safeguards.
Incident Process: Lead team(s) to review accidents and incidents ensuring adherence to proper protocols, including interviewing witnesses and analyzing root causes to recommend corrective actions and prevent recurrences.
Reporting & Documentation: Compile detailed risk analysis and inspection reports to help lower accidents and incidents.
Insurance: Assist in minimizing exposure to property, liability, and workers' compensation losses.
Employee Growth & Development: Assist management and HR in employee growth and development using various strategies and resources.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in occupational safety, risk management, training and development or a closely related field.
Experience: 3–5 years of experience in safety management or training with specific exposure to the agribusiness or agricultural industry.
Bilingual Proficiency: Professional working proficiency in Spanish and English is highly preferred to effectively communicate safety protocols to all employees.
Certifications: Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or Applicator License/Certificate are a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to navigate uneven terrain, endure variable weather conditions, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Motor Vehicle Requirement: A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are required

Pay: $75,000.00 per year
