American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Work in a 55-bed Emergency Department at an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center with Chest Pain, Burn, and Stroke Center designations

High-volume ED with an average daily census of 200–220 patients across horizontal, vertical, observation, and behavioral health holding areas
-
Handles the full ESI 1–5 acuity range including trauma, stroke, STEMI, burns, GSWs, MVCs, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, conscious sedation, vent management, overdoses, and psychiatric cases

Unit is currently undergoing renovation; travelers are not likely to be utilized in trauma bays during initial contracts

Patient ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1 depending on clinical area and acuity

Epic EMR; experience is required

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, GE point-of-care ultrasound, and GE EKG machines

12-hour night shifts, 1930–0730, 36 hours per week

Every-other-weekend rotation required

No on-call responsibilities

May float to the ED Transition Care Unit

Active NC or compact RN license required
-
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC
-
Minimum 2 years of ED experience required

Level 1 Trauma Center experience required

First-time travelers considered only with 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience

At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Must have been separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position

Provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care across the full spectrum of emergency and trauma patients
-
Departmental support includes ED Techs (ADLs, vitals, I&O, foley, phlebotomy), unit secretary, charge nurse, pod leader resource nurses, paramedic staff, SANE Quality Coordinator, and 24/7 coverage by critical care pharmacists, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist

Orientation consists of a facility-level NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Time off requests require manager approval

Scheduling runs on a 6-week cycle

Royal blue scrubs required
