ASSIGNED DUTIES AND TASKS
Position overview: WIC Director: Position is primarily responsible for implementation and daily functions of Women, Infant, Children (WIC) program for Park County. As a member of the Health Department team assisting with various programs such as outreach programs and working with community partners in a professional and accurate manner.
All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated. Duties of the position are not all inclusive and subject to change.
PUBLIC HEALTH HOME VISITING PROGRAM
To implement Women, Infant, Children (WIC) program adhering to Federal, State, and local requirements.
To act as a liaison to State WIC for program administration, reporting and facilitation.
Complete annual Nutrition Education and Breastfeeding Plans and monitor implementation.
Work with Health Department Director to create trial budget contract report for state WIC director approval, prepare monthly expenditure reports and manage budget expenditures.
Supervises Farmers’ Market program.
Provide client services including: nutritional planning, determination of supplemental food needs and provision of breastfeeding supplies.
Provide individual and group education in nutrition, breastfeeding and health issues.
Conduct home visits to moms, infants, and families as requested by partnering organizations including Livingston HealthCare, Community Health Partners, Department of Family Services, CHP/Parents as Teachers program. Follow up accordingly as needed to provide for seamless service coordination.
To prepare educational materials and development of education and outreach initiatives.
To Assist with Health Department team in promoting a positive public health culture by partaking in outreach efforts including but not limited to health fairs, farmers markets, and other Community based health promotion efforts.
To facilitate Community Referral system with other local lead team members.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Performs other duties as assigned by Health Department Director. This includes special projects and a variety of other functions as needed.
KNOWLEDGE
This work requires knowledge of pediatric physical assessment, nutritional counseling issues, including health and fitness, and screening for nutritional risks. Must be familiar with medical terminology, medical and legal guidelines. Proficient ability to facilitate meetings and conduct presentations to professional groups and the public. Must be able to operate a computer, have skills in word processing, data entry and specialized programs as necessary. Must be able to operate fax, copier and cell phone. Ability to work a flexible schedule (infrequent evening and weekend work and the ability to travel overnight on occasion). Defensive driving in all road conditions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics and Nutrition or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferably with a Public Health nursing emphasis. Alternate combination of diploma in dietetics or nursing with 3 years public health experience considered. Experience working with youth is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current or pending Montana State Registered Dietitian Certificate or Montana State Board of Nursing License, with emphasis in Public Health
- Current Montana Driver’s License
INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION
This position plans and carries out most assignments independently, and uses judgment and initiative to solve problems. Work objectives and priorities are defined by Montana Department Public Health and Human Services.
PERSONAL CONTACTS
This position has contacts with the public, county personnel, elected officials, department heads, community services representatives and clients in order to be responsive to questions and inquiries regarding the Public Health Home Visiting service, and Montana Department of Health and Human Services and WIC Montana.
