Prepress Technician — Convergent Print Group, Phoenix
The work
Convergent Print Group produces grand- and large-format graphics for out-of-home advertising, retail, events, and fleet — billboards, transit shelters, bus kings, building wraps, vehicle wraps, and stadium and festival installations across the country. We're hiring a Prepress Technician for our Phoenix plant.
You're the last set of eyes before a file goes to press. On a job this size, a resolution error or a bad color call isn't a reprint of 500 sheets — it's a 48-foot bilboard that has to come back down. Precision is the job.
What you'll do
- Preflight incoming customer files for resolution, fonts, color space, bleeds, and print readiness — quickly, and catching what others miss
- Build output templates for core products (bulletins, transit shelters, bus kings) and for complex work requiring plot files, ganging across multiple jobs, tiling, or non-standard finishing
- Prep files for unique projects — building wraps, vehicle wraps, multi-substrate jobs with specialty finishing
- Color correct and match to customer and brand standards (CMYK/RGB/Pantone); manage ICC profiles for consistent output
- Read job orders accurately and prep to the customer's spec, not just to what the file suggests
- Find better ways to run a job — improved material yield, fewer passes, cleaner finishing
- Coordinate with sales and production to resolve missing assets, unclear specs, and file problems before they reach the floor
- Proof against customer approvals; keep files organized and archived to company standards
- Assist with artwork layout when a client asks for it
What you need
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Solid command of color theory and CMYK/RGB/Pantone matching
- Ability to juggle multiple jobs against production deadlines without losing accuracy
- Clear communication with sales and production teams
- Valid US work authorization (E-Verify)
- Satisfactory pre-employment background check and drug screen
What sets a candidate apart
- Large-format, grand-format, or wide-format printing background
- Experience with RIP software (Onyx, Caldera, or similar)
- Working knowledge of what happens after the print — laminating, cutting, sewing, grommeting, welding, and how those steps affect file prep
- Experience building output templates and ganging for material efficiency
- Associate's degree or certificate in graphic design or prepress (equivalent experience is fine)
