Job Description: Part-Time Cook – Mason House Veterans Transitional Housing Program
Organization Overview
The Bridge Club of Greater Lowell (BCGL) is a nonprofit recovery community organization dedicated to helping individuals overcome substance use disorders, homelessness, and barriers to employment. Through recovery coaching, workforce development, housing assistance, veteran services, and reentry support, BCGL empowers individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve long-term stability.
Mason House is BCGL's 15-bed transitional housing program serving veterans experiencing homelessness. Residents receive safe housing, case management, recovery support, employment assistance, and other wraparound services designed to promote self-sufficiency and successful community reintegration.
Position Summary
The Bridge Club of Greater Lowell is seeking a dependable and compassionate Part-Time Cook to prepare nutritious meals for residents of Mason House. The Cook will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, kitchen sanitation, inventory management, and ensuring that residents receive healthy, well-balanced meals in a welcoming environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience in food service, understand safe food handling practices, and appreciate the importance of providing quality meals to individuals working toward stability and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals for up to 15 residents daily.
- Develop weekly menus that provide balanced and appealing meal options.
- Ensure all food preparation complies with local health regulations and food safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment.
- Monitor food inventory and notify management of supply needs.
- Properly store food and maintain temperature logs as required.
- Minimize food waste through efficient meal planning and portion control.
- Accommodate dietary restrictions and special nutritional needs when possible.
- Coordinate with program staff regarding resident schedules, events, and meal service needs.
- Assist with kitchen inspections and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Foster a positive and respectful dining environment for residents.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a cook, line cook, prep cook, or in a similar food service position preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to prepare meals for groups in a timely and organized manner.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Experience working with veterans, individuals in recovery, or vulnerable populations is a plus.
