Compensation:
Salary: $29.50 - $31.98/hr

Position Summary & Responsibilities:
-
Review any and all license applications, including but not limited to, initials, renewals, conversion, endorsements, reinstatements and multi-state license applications for disciplinary action in another state/jurisdiction or a criminal record. Access CJIS, and KS District Court Public Access Portal as needed. Prepare case summary of findings for presentation to KSBN Board. Respond to questions and inquiries from licensees, applicants, staff, employers, others related to investigations or legal/disciplinary actions. Knowledge of the NLC is essential in this role. Participates in KSBN presentations to the public.

Search agency licensing software, NURSYS and other relevant databases for relevant information related to licensing. Ensure that all applications requiring legal review are processed timely to meet department standards. Report to Nursing Practice Specialist any barrier that prevents case investigation from being conducted timely. Process criminal background according to agency procedures to ensure strict confidentiality of same. Maintain security clearance, attend to training timely.

Open cases on complaints alleging unprofessional conduct related to non-nursing practice. Obtain records and other evidence of alleged violation. Assist in ascertaining facts pertaining to complaints, appeals and lawsuits against Kansas Board of Nursing licensees. Investigate alleged violations of the Nurse Practice and Licensed Mental Health Technicians Acts. Review personnel records, medical records, KNAP files, board’s previous orders, and other related documents in the preparation of a case summary for presentation to KSBN Board. Utilize acquired knowledge to collect information to determine if law was violated. Consult Registered Nurse Investigator when nursing practice is in question. Prepare and serve subpoenas, primarily via certified mail, as needed. Organize evidence and prepare written reports of findings describing the allegation. Utilize case management system to maintain, store and present findings to the Board’s Investigative Committee. Adhere to open records request policy and ensure that investigative files are handled appropriately. Provide testimony or in other ways assist the Board’s Hearing Panel or its attorneys. Testify under oath as required in the presentation of the case before a hearing panel.

Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and /or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.

In addition to the aforementioned, the incumbent will be expected to perform other duties as needed and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Education – High School or equivalent (GED)
-
Training in health care related field, case management, licensed Practical Nurse.

College graduate desirable, or college work in law enforcement type courses.
-
One to two years minimum in healthcare, law enforcement, legal or administrative field preferred.
License, certificates and registrations

Healthcare background, Licensed Practical Nurse preferred

Certified Investigator training (may be after employment).

Eligible for qualification as notary public (may be after employment).

Certificate of completion of investigator training course (may be after employment).
