Job Summary
The Fitter/Welder is responsible for fabricating, fitting, and welding structural steel and overhead crane components according to engineering drawings and specifications. This position supports the manufacturing, repair, and installation of cranes and lifting equipment while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and productivity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols.
- Fit, align, and assemble structural steel, crane components, and fabricated assemblies prior to welding.
- Perform SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), and FCAW welding in various positions to produce high-quality welds.
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, ironworkers, grinders, drills, presses, and overhead cranes.
- Measure, cut, and prepare materials to meet project specifications and tolerances.
- Inspect completed welds and assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with drawings.
- Assist with the assembly and testing of fabricated crane components.
- Perform repairs and modifications to existing equipment as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following OSHA and company safety standards.
- Collaborate with shop personnel, engineers, and supervisors to complete projects on schedule.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
3+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication, fitting, or industrial welding preferred.
Proficiency in MIG, Stick, and/or Flux Core welding processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings.
Experience using measuring tools such as tape measures, squares, calipers, and levels.
Familiarity with overhead crane manufacturing or heavy industrial equipment
