The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) is seeking a Fiscal Accounting Specialist to join our collaborative and mission-driven Fiscal team.
The Office of Fiscal Management is responsible for maintaining the department's budget, accounting, preparation of financial statements and reports, maintaining grants and contracts, processing of payments and revenue, and payroll operations. This office also interprets and implements state and federal program statutes, state and federal regulations, and policy directives.
The Fiscal Accounting Specialist provides fiscal support services to internal and external customers for a variety of statewide education program grants. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of grant reimbursements, fiscal reporting, and related accounting functions.
What You'll Do:
Key Responsibilities include:

Utilize the DPI grants system to receive, review, and process reimbursement claims, budget revisions, and other grant components.

Review, verify, and reconcile transactions to ensure ledger balances align with awarded grant amounts.

Perform fiscal duties including preparing vouchers, reviewing billings and purchase orders, classifying and recording transactions, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and preparing transaction reports.

Provide technical assistance to program managers, schools, and other stakeholders regarding grant and fiscal processes.

Communicate grant balances and deadlines to ensure timely reporting and closure of grants.

Maintain account-keeping procedures and fiscal systems.

Support internal fiscal operations and provide backup coverage for other fiscal functions as needed.
What You'll Bring:

Experience reviewing, processing, and analyzing financial transactions with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and grant requirements to ensure compliance and fiscal accountability.

Experience working with financial management, accounting, or grants management systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide technical assistance and build positive working relationships with program staff, schools, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Strong customer service skills and a commitment to providing timely, accurate, and professional support.

Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment and supporting shared fiscal responsibilities.
To be considered you must have:

Associate's degree with emphasis in accounting, business, or related field and one year of related fiscal experience; or
-
High school diploma (or GED) and three years of related fiscal experience.

Compensation & Location
Hiring Range: $4,200-$4,500/month, depending on experience.
Location: Onsite at the State Capitol in Bismarck, ND. This position may be eligible to work remotely up to two days a week upon successful completion of the probationary period.
