DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Recreation Division Manager perform a variety of custodial and routine maintenance tasks involving the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of facilities, walkways, equipment, and adjoining premises. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a representative of the City of Mesquite, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.

Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, clean windows, and polish surfaces and floors.

Following established procedures or verbal instructions, select the proper chemical cleaner and supplies and to effectively and safely clean and disinfect hallways, stairways, offices, meeting rooms, and fitness rooms, locker rooms, gymnasium, restrooms, drinking fountains, benches, etc.

Operate floor cleaning machines, buffers, and carpet cleaning machines.

Perform special cleaning tasks such as disinfecting contaminated or frequently used areas.

Move furniture, equipment, and other items such as files, partitions, supply boxes, displays, storage containers, etc.

Empty and clean waste containers; transport waste materials to appropriate disposal containers.

Ensure that appropriate supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc. are available to patrons.

Maintain proper inventory of cleaning materials and supplies at assigned workstations.

On a daily basis, as well as after various public functions, check windows, doors, and office equipment to ensure they are secured and/or turned off.

Maintain outside areas adjacent to the facility in a safe condition by removing debris, sweeping, hosing down areas, and adjoining premises.

Perform routine maintenance in the building such as touch-up painting, replacing light bulbs, hanging and removing pictures, repairing and/or installing shelves and other fixtures, patching cracks or small holes in walls.

Report damage, malfunctions, hazards, or irregularities of buildings and equipment to supervisor.

Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.

Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Custodial work is performed primarily at the Recreation Center; however, when needed individuals may be assigned to other facilities.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Working Conditions:
Work is performed under the following conditions:
Duties are primarily performed at the Recreation Center building and other facilities as needed. Work may occasionally be performed outside in varying conditions in varying and extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time. Schedule will primarily be evenings, Monday-Saturday.
Physical Requirements:
Strength and stamina to stand, walk, and climb stairs and ladders; stamina and flexibility to stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Additionally, strength, dexterity, and stamina to use hands and arms to reach, finger, handle, feel, grasp, open containers, and to operate hand and power tools, floor cleaning, polishing, and other equipment; ability to periodically work in confined spaces; frequent moving/lifting/carrying/pushing or objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasional moving/lifting/carrying/pushing of objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Job Hazards/Risk Factors:
Employees risk hazard from power tools and cleaning solvents, mechanical and electrical equipment, exposure to human debris, drug paraphernalia, heavy equipment, and working in and around hazardous gases, fumes, dust, dirt, odors, paint, chemicals, and pesticides. May be required to work in heights in excess of twenty (20) feet.
