Music/Vocal Instructor (Contractual, Dayspring, Inc. Summer Program)

Dayspring’s mission is to support and promote children’s total development (intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical) and help them become productive, giving members of society. Our goals are to improve education and schooling outcomes (such as high school completion and college enrollment) for our children and to develop programs that serve as models for educating children who have not traditionally had access to high-quality educational settings.
Compensation: $30/hour
Hours: 1.5 hours per day, 1 day per week (Total: 8 sessions)
Program Dates: June 23, 2025, to August 15, 2025
Program Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Location: Dayspring, Inc. – Park Heights, Baltimore, MD
Duration: 8 Weeks (Summer Session)
Position Overview:
We seek a talented and enthusiastic Music/Vocal Instructor to guide Grades 3–8 students through weekly music and voice sessions. This instructor will help students explore rhythm, melody, and vocal performance in a fun and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will cultivate musical skills while building student confidence and teamwork.
Responsibilities:
Goal: Support students in selecting and performing music that reflects their culture, identity, and social values. Encourage student voice and choice in song selection or songwriting. Final pieces will be performed during the closing celebration.
- Collaborate with program staff to align activities with summer themes and schedule
- Encourage self-expression and creativity through music
- Integrate music appreciation and cultural relevance into each session
- Lead group vocal/music lessons focusing on basic technique, rhythm, harmony, and performance
- Prepare students for a potential showcase or performance at the end of the program
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Vocal Performance, Music Education, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching music or vocal arts to children in grades 3rd to 8th grade
- Ability to work with varying skill levels in a group setting
- Experience with culturally diverse music and instruction
- Strong youth engagement skills
- Has successfully led student-centered music instruction that uplifts diverse voices, fosters personal expression, and produces justice-driven performances rooted in youth identity and empowerment.Evidence of prior implementation required.
- Must pass a background check and comply with program guidelines
