Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and root planing, to remove plaque, tartar, and stains.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Conduct patient assessments by evaluating vital signs, medical history, and oral health status to inform treatment plans.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, including brushing, flossing, and dietary advice to promote long-term dental health.
- Assist dentists during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Dentrix accurately for documentation review and medical coding.
- Maintain strict infection prevention protocols through aseptic techniques, sterilization of dental instruments, and adherence to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Support the use of dental equipment and technology, including dental chairs, X-ray machines, and intraoral cameras, ensuring proper operation.
- Collaborate with team members to streamline workflow, improve patient care processes, and uphold high standards of infection control and healthcare safety.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a general or pediatric dentistry setting with a strong understanding of dental terminology and clinical procedures.
- Familiarity with EHR/EHR systems such as Dentrix for managing medical records efficiently.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry practices is preferred to effectively care for young patients.
- Demonstrated ability in patient care, including patient assessment, education, and communication skills that foster trust and rapport.
- Expertise in infection prevention management, including sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques aligned with healthcare infection control standards.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, medical imaging procedures, and medical coding relevant to dental practice documentation.
- Ability to perform dental x-rays accurately while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy protection.
- Experience with chairside assisting during various dental procedures to support the dentist seamlessly throughout treatments.
