Skills Instructor
Skills Instructor role will include, but is not limited to the description below:
- Ensure that all work is carried out in a manner that is safe, respectful and empowering to all participants in our SMART, HOPE and RESPITE programs
- Offer activities for the monthly calendar
- Lead and facilitate daily activities, including art projects, games, social skills groups, prevocational classes, hands on farm activities outdoors and community activities while encouraging social interactions and confidence
- Manage group dynamics; addressing any issues that arise on-site with confidence and compassion
- Collaborate with team members to create a positive, respectful, safe and joyful environment for all participants and staff
- Provide professional, calm, respectful guidance and support to all participants through social, vocational and self-care skills to promote integration, self-respect and independence
- Document daily activities and attendance on Therap during your scheduled shift.
- Implement lesson plans daily (H.O.P.E.)
- Follow the daily program schedule
- Must be comfortable creating new lesson plans with the supervision of our I/DD Supervisor weekly (H.O.P.E.)
- Flexibility between programs
- Participant-to-staff ratio no more than 6:1
Requirements:
- Ability and Confidence to teach Prevocational Skills and Social/Community Skills daily to our participants
- Patience and compassion with our participants
- Comfortability working with farm animals
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Possess a Valid Driver’s License, with no more than 5 points
Preferred:
- At least 1 year of experience working with individuals having I/DD
- Experience with teaching and/or creating lesson plans
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
