Duties
- Provide classroom support by assisting teachers with lesson implementation, curriculum development, and classroom management strategies aligned with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Support students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and behavioral disorders, through behavior management techniques and individualized assistance.
- Assist students with special education needs in daily activities, including physical assistance, communication support such as American Sign Language (ASL), and classroom routines.
- Help develop and adapt instructional materials tailored to students’ IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and specific learning goals in literacy, math, and early childhood education.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to implement effective support strategies for student success.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information while documenting progress, behavior incidents, and other relevant data accurately.
- Support classroom organization by preparing materials, managing supplies, and ensuring a safe environment conducive to learning for children of various ages including toddlers.
Skills
- Strong understanding of childhood development principles and experience working with children in educational or childcare settings.
- Proficiency in special education practices, including behavior management techniques and classroom support strategies for students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders support strategies and experience working with individuals on the spectrum.
- Familiarity with curriculum development, lesson planning, literacy education, basic math skills, and early childhood education standards.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals; ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
- Ability to provide physical assistance when needed for students requiring mobility or behavioral support; experience working with students with physical or developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Experience working within private school environments or similar educational settings is a plus.
