Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer IV to lead the design, implementation, and commissioning of industrial control systems in a hybrid work model. This senior role focuses on controls and instrumentation engineering, control system architecture, network integration, and project delivery in regulated manufacturing environments (GMP). The Automation Engineer IV will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop robust PLC/HMI solutions, produce control schematics and panel designs, support fabrication and wiring activities, and ensure systems meet safety, electrical (NEC) and process requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Plans and directs work and manages a project budget from a discipline design perspective on large complex projects.

Supports Project Manager in proposal development, man-hour planning and project scheduling for the discipline scope of work on large/complex projects.

Create and validate electrical and instrumentation schematics, P&IDs, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD and Revit.

Produce detailed control narratives, I/O lists, loop diagrams, and functional specifications in line with GMP and ISA standards.

Coordinate panel fabrication, wiring, and site installations; oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT).

Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs and HMI systems; support software version control, backups, and commissioning activities.

Interface with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams to resolve design issues and implement change requests (RFIs) during construction and startup.

Perform on-site commissioning, validation, and startup support; train operations and maintenance personnel on control systems and procedures.

Ensure compliance with electrical codes (NEC), industry standards (ISA), and company safety and quality policies during design and execution.

Manage vendor relationships for control components, instrumentation, and panel fabrication; evaluate proposals and support procurement decisions.

Mentor junior engineers and technicians, review work products, and contribute to continuous improvement of automation engineering practices.

Document engineering deliverables, prepare punch lists, and provide clear as-built documentation and handover packages to operations and maintenance teams.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Instrumentation, or related technical discipline.

Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience in automation, controls, and instrumentation engineering in industrial or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.

Strong understanding of control system design, control loops, P&IDs, schematics, and instrumentation selection.

Proficient with AutoCAD and Revit for developing electrical and instrument drawings; experience with panel design and fabrication oversight.

Knowledge of GMP requirements, ISA standards, and NEC electrical codes as applied to control systems.

Experience designing and deploying industrial networks, including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and cybersecurity considerations.

Proven ability to lead commissioning and startup activities, perform FAT/SAT, and support validation activities.

Skilled in creating technical documentation: control narratives, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and test protocols.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills; ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a hybrid environment.

Preferred: certifications such as ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP)
