Job Summary: The Substitute Dance Instructor is responsible for instructing students, taking attendance, controlling the music source, demonstrating dance combinations, and following the substitute lesson plans/curriculum provided. The role is part of the agency substitute instructor pool and hours are assigned on an as-needed basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

- Actively support the agency's risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents

Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee

Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor

Attend and participate in required safety trainings

Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs

Be a positive role model for students
- Responsible for the supervision and safety of the students at all times

Responsible for instructing students with enthusiasm, creativity, and sensitivity to student learning styles and abilities

Communicate needs to Recreation Supervisor such as communications to patrons, studio facility updates, prop maintenance or replacement

Maintain close supervision of children when assisting in programs

Maintain the ability to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students

Demonstrate techniques in class as model for students

Take proper attendance and report excessive absences to the Recreation Supervisor

Represent the Park District to parents/guardians, students and guests and conduct him/herself with professionalism and courtesy
- Adhere to general rules and policies of the Park District
- Responsible for sanitizing, clean-up and set-up of the dance studio room

Maintain good working relationships with fellow staff members, community members and visitors

- Ability to think, work and teach interdisciplinary content
Education and/or Experience:
- Experience teaching students of all ages with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds for a minimum of 3 years
- Education background and/or experience in Dance

Specialized Dance techniques preferred
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

Frequently required to talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, and feel and reach with hands and arms
