PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The East Bend Lead Youth Development Professional (Lead YDP) is responsible for implementing safe, enriching youth development programs and overseeing a cohort with ratios up to 1:20 with the support of Youth Development Professionals. This role requires excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and sound judgement. As the Lead Youth Development Professional in a cohort, you will develop curriculum, facilitate programs, and take ownership of the day-to-day operations in your program area(s) to ensure all Club members have the opportunity to thrive. The Lead Youth Development Professional will serve as the bridge between their program area and the Program Director. In this role, acute decision-makingis crucial; the ideal candidate will be perceptive and able to determine when to be self-directing and when to ask for help or report an issue to the Program Director.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Provide an environment that is safe physically, emotionally and mentally for all youth and staff.
- Plan, implement and monitor programs and activities in tandem with the organization’s youth development mission, goals, and current year objectives. Compile a weekly activities calendar for your program areas, which you will share with your Program Director and team.
- Assist youth with academic success, time management, and organization skills.
- Ensure Club members receive guidance to help them make appropriate choices about their physical, emotional, social, and vocational needs.
- Foster positive and respectful relationships with youth utilizing "active listening" skills.
- Thoroughly document and address unacceptable behaviors utilizing the behavior procedures set by the Club; immediately notify Program Director when necessary.
- Assess group engagement and adapt programs to optimize participation and highlight the
BGC’s pillars of success.
- Measure impact of programs through written observation and member feedback.
- Manage necessary administrative functions including behavior logs, incident reports, impact measurement reports, program curriculum, timesheets, etc.
- Keep Club equipment in good working condition and report all equipment problems to the Program Director.
- Keep all program areas clean and free of debris at all times.
- Act as a role model and mentor for your program team, making decisions that center on Club as a professional organization that develops youth.
- Create a positive, solutions-oriented, and responsible culture for the team of Youth Development Professionals you collaborate with in your program area.
- Assist Mission Support staff in key duties pertaining to various leadership categories
- Adhere to all policies and procedures published by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend.
EVALUATION
Position holder will establish, with the concurrence of the Program Director, specific semi-annual performance objectives and expected outcomes in accordance with the above Key Roles. These objectives are dynamic and will be revised from time to time to the mutual agreement of the position holder and the Program Director.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred, High School Diploma required.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification preferred
- Ability to deal effectively with multi-age children, small groups of children in informal activities, and large groups of children in organized activities.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to collaborate with other youth-focused professionals to problem solve, innovate, and think constructively while adhering to BGCB’s guidelines.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Successful applicants for this position must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to starting work, unless a reasonable accommodation is approved.

- Must adhere to all rules and requirements outlined in BGCB’s COVID-19 policies and protocols.
- Must be able to constantly position self to perform necessary tasks throughout the building.
- Must be able to move and traverse throughout the building as needed throughout the day.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- The wage will be $19.50-$20/hour for our school year program for Lead Youth Development Professionals.
- This position is eligible for medical benefits. BGCB may pay up to 100% of a Lead Youth Development Professional’s monthly premium. Benefits package is currently valued at approximately $3,636 per year.
- Employees will accrue sick leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked beginning on their date of hire.
- Employees are eligible for a 401(k) Qualified Retirement plan and BGCB matches up to 3% of the employee’s contribution each pay period.
- Free or reduced care for school aged children may be available (limited availability).
