SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Medical Billing Clerk is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the clinic by managing patient accounts, processing payments, and assisting with insurance-related functions. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients regarding billing inquiries while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all business office processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to billing-related inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Greet and assist patients in the business office with billing questions and account support.
- Collect and process patient payments in person and over the phone.
- Prepare, review, and submit insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner.
- Verify claim information for completeness and compliance prior to submission.
- Monitor claim status, follow up on unpaid or denied claims, and initiate corrections or appeals as needed.
- Post patient and insurance payments accurately and reconcile accounts.
- Process refunds and resolve unapplied credits.
- Maintain and update patient demographic and insurance information.
- Perform daily bank deposit preparation and reconciliation.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and external entities regarding claims and accounts.
- Maintain provider certifications, licensures, enrollments, and other required credentialing documentation to ensure compliance and active status with applicable entities.
- Maintain organized, accurate financial and patient records in applicable systems.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations.

- Proficient in computer systems, including EMR/EHR platforms and billing software.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic knowledge of medical billing, insurance processes, and reimbursement practices preferred.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum education: High School Diploma/GED
Preferred: 1–2 years of experience in medical billing, medical records, or insurance-related roles
Experience with EMR/EHR systems
Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and insurance processes
Bilingual Skills Preferred; Compensation Available
