CJ Precision is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Programmer and Setup Machinist with knowledge of sub-spindle, Y-axis and live-tooling lathe operations.
This is not a basic machine-operator position. We are looking for a machinist who can independently program, set up, troubleshoot and operate advanced CNC lathes, including 2500SY machines or equivalent equipment.
The successful candidate will help establish reliable machining processes, get jobs running efficiently and hand established work off to other operators for continued production.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Program, set up and operate 2500SY CNC lathes or equivalent machines
- Work with sub-spindles, Y-axis machining and live tooling
- Develop and edit programs, offsets, tooling selections, speeds and feeds
- Complete machine setups and prove out programs
- Produce and inspect first-article parts before releasing jobs for production
- Move between as many as four machines and multiple production priorities
- Establish reliable processes that can be handed off to other operators
- Troubleshoot programming, setup, tooling and quality issues
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications and sketches
- Inspect parts using appropriate gauges and precision measuring tools
- Ensure completed parts meet blueprint and quality requirements
- Maintain control of quality, production time, cost and thoroughness
- Follow all company safety and quality procedures
- Arrive at work and work-related meetings on time and as scheduled
- Communicate effectively with operators, supervisors and other members of the team
Required Qualifications
- At least 1 year of CNC programming experience
- Demonstrated experience independently setting up CNC lathes
- Experience with sub-spindle, Y-axis or live-tooling operations
- Experience working in a job-shop or similar manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods, tooling, fixturing and machining techniques
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications
- Ability to inspect parts and verify conformance to required tolerances
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and remain productive with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple machines, tasks and priorities
- Ability to adapt to changing production needs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience programming with GibbsCAM
- Multi-axis programming experience
- Experience with 2500SY machines or comparable CNC lathes
- Experience training operators or handing off established production jobs
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced setup machinist who can take ownership of a job from blueprint through programming, setup and first-part approval.
This person should be dependable, organized and comfortable troubleshooting independently while helping the shop maintain quality and production schedules.
Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
