Required qualifications:
Ph.D. in chemical and engineering or a closely related field and previous teaching experience at a college or university.
Preferred qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching in advanced undergraduate chemical engineering courses; professional/industrial experience in chemical engineering or closely related field, with an emphasis on accomplishments in chemical manufacturing; prior experience teaching a chemical engineering design course, in particular in creating a senior design project; experience using chemical engineering design software, in particular ASPEN.
Position Description
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota seeks to hire an adjunct assistant professor (9403A) to provide recitation support for CHEN 4501W: Chemical Engineering Design, a 4-credit course.
Successful candidates will be expected to be part of the teaching team for one undergraduate course in the spring semester, hold office hours, advise students, and assess student work. CHEN 4501W involves a capstone design project, and it is expected that the candidate’s role in teaching the course will include assisting in the conception and execution of that design project. In addition, the adjunct faculty member should continue personal growth within the profession, keep current within the field, and broaden his/her/their knowledge and expertise of chemical engineering concepts. The appointment may be renewable for an additional term or terms based on need, funding, and performance.
The duties associated with this position are: teach one undergraduate course (40%), hold office hours (15%), advise students (30%), and assess student work (15%).
