SENIOR ESTIMATOR
Bozeman, Montana
Founded in 1960, Martel Construction Inc. is one of Montana’s premier general contractors, with markets in Bozeman, Big Sky, Bigfork, and Missoula. Our hands on approach includes self-performing key elements of our projects and is supported by our 25,000 square foot custom millwork shop in Missoula.
We are seeking an Estimator to strengthen our estimating and preconstruction team. This position will help move opportunities from Business Development into successful project delivery by developing sound budgets, validating scope coverage, assisting with preconstruction and evaluating value engineering proposals. The successful candidate will bring strong estimating experience, sound judgment, technical knowledge, and the ability to lead complex pursuits while building strong relationships with clients, trade partners, and project teams.
WHAT YOU WILL LEAD
- Conceptual and final estimating for negotiated CM/GC projects and complete bid pricing for lump sum general contracting work.
- Estimating and preconstruction efforts that help move opportunities from Business Development into Project Management.
- Quantity takeoffs, pricing development, trade partner scope analysis, and bid day analysis including self-performed work packages.
- Value engineering, budget reduction options, cost studies, and other pricing efforts in order to help meet the goals of the project.
- Trade partner solicitation, scope development, bid analysis, and recommendations.
- Estimate and budget presentations to clients, project teams, and company leadership.
- Estimating support for client interviews, including interview preparation and execution.
- Complete estimate deliverables, including summary and detailed estimates.
- Mentoring and developing staff estimators while contributing to consistent estimating practices.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Ten or more years of construction estimating experience.
- Demonstrated experience successfully estimating projects valued from $5 million to $100 million.
- Thorough knowledge of construction activities, means, and methods, with the ability to develop accurate scope and pricing from limited information.
- Experience estimating both self-performed and subcontracted work with an emphasis on concrete construction, as well as rough and finish carpentry.
- Extensive experience with digital takeoff methods.
- Ability to develop internal budgets for both self-performed and subcontracted scopes of work based on historical data.
- Extensive experience with Sage Estimating and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Onscreen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
- Ability to communicate effectively and solicit bids in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lead project and estimating teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to mentor and develop staff estimators.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
- Four-year engineering degree, construction management degree, or an equivalent combination of related experience and technical training.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
