Position Summary: Assists in coordinating appointments and referrals for patients. Performs moderately complex clerical and clinical work. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical support.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
· Answers telephone, screens calls, makes appointments, takes messages, and provides information.
· Destroys outdated records or forms following established procedures for retention and destruction.
· Verifies and updates necessary information and performs data entry of demographic, financial information, and any necessary documentation in the information system.
· Assists in coordinating appointments and referrals for specialty care to other Henry Ford Health Systems, and other entities/resource agencies and follows office scheduling policies.
· Ensures patients have been cleared for specialty service office visits from their insurance carrier and/or patient-assisted programs.
· Resolves pre-authorization, registration, and case-related concerns before a patient's appointment.
· Informs patient of any pending documentation needed from patient and/or status of appointment.
· Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient is not financially obligated for services provided
· Responds to routine requests for information.
· Maintains statistical data of referrals using various information systems for reporting.
· Assists the providers, dentists, or nurses in relation to specialty referrals
· Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPPA regulations.
· Scan all medical reports.
· Follows medical records policies and procedures.
· Duplicates documents and forms as directed
· Performs related work as required.
· Collaborates with members of the health care team and other health professionals as it relates to essential job duties
Experience:
1. Prefer one- two years’ work experience, preferably in a medical setting.
2. Experience in moderately complex clinical procedures preferred.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology.
4. Word processing and computer experience.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Involves frequent contact with patients. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick people.
Pay: From $17.57 per hour
