The
Environmental Systems Technician II provides advanced technical expertise in the operation, maintenance, and repair of critical campus environmental and building systems to ensure safe, reliable, and energy-efficient facilities. Serves as a senior-level technician responsible for complex diagnostics, emergency response, and system optimization, supporting uninterrupted campus operations.

Performs advanced start-up, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of campus environmental and building systems, including HVAC controls, chillers, boilers, air handlers, compressors, pumps, motors, cooling towers, lighting systems, fire and smoke detection systems, emergency generators, high-voltage transformers, and related electrical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical components.

Executes major preventive and emergency repairs on complex mechanical and control systems; installs, calibrates, and replaces thermostats, relays, controllers, transducers, condensers, and associated wiring. Services air handling systems, including coil cleaning, filter replacement, belt and pulley adjustments, lubrication, and pump maintenance. Maintains chemical treatment systems, domestic water heaters, and auxiliary environmental equipment.

Assists with or leads complex repair projects, including kitchen equipment systems, and supports installation and modification of building automation and control systems across the physical plant. Conducts preliminary energy consumption analyses by compiling and comparing utility data with environmental variables to support efficiency initiatives.

Reads and interprets blueprints, circuitry diagrams, and construction drawings to diagnose system issues and restore services under emergency conditions. Participates in standby rotations, responds to after-hours and weekend calls, and works collaboratively to ensure safe, continuous campus operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times. The employee will be subjected to hazards associated with electrical work and contact with cleaning agents, lubricants and other chemicals used in industry such as water treatment acids.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina. Frequently lifts assets and equipment weighing fifty (50) or more pounds. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service buildings and climbs to heights in excess of forty (40) feet. Will be exposed to pushing, pulling, standing, sitting, stooping and general physical work approximately fifty (50%) of the time.
