Gallery Director, Bill Mack Gallery, Laguna Beach
Job Title: Gallery Director Location: 218 [street name], Laguna Beach, CA 92651
About Us
Nestled in the heart of Laguna Beach, one of America's most celebrated art destinations, the Bill Mack Gallery is a premier fine art destination on the California coast. Our gallery features an exceptional collection of fine and contemporary art, including the renowned works of Bill Mack, Gary Welton, DeVon, and many other celebrated artists. The Laguna Beach location serves a discerning local and international collector base and represents the highest level of the Bill Mack Gallery experience.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a driven, charismatic, and results-oriented Gallery Director to lead our Laguna Beach location to new heights. This is a rare opportunity for a proven sales leader to take ownership of a world-class gallery: building and mentoring a high-performing team, cultivating relationships with serious collectors, and personally closing significant acquisitions.
As Gallery Director, you will be both a top-performing consultant and the leader who sets the standard for everyone around you. You will own the gallery's sales results, shape its day-to-day operations, and create an environment where both clients and your team thrive. If you have a track record of high-end sales, hands-on management, and building teams that exceed their goals, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do
Sales Leadership
- Personally engage collectors at the highest level, presenting our artists and works with confidence and authenticity to drive significant acquisitions.
- Own the gallery's sales targets by setting goals, tracking performance, and leading by example on the floor.
- Build and nurture long-term relationships with collectors, understanding their tastes and guiding them toward meaningful acquisitions.
- Develop consultative, relationship-driven outreach strategies that grow the gallery's collector base.
Team Management & Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor a team of fine art consultants, developing their product knowledge and closing skills.
- Coach the team daily, setting clear expectations and holding everyone to the highest standards of professionalism and performance.
- Create and manage staff schedules to ensure the gallery is properly staffed during peak periods, weekends, and evenings.
- Foster a positive, motivated, and collaborative culture that keeps top talent engaged and performing.
Operations & Experience
- Oversee day-to-day gallery operations, ensuring a polished, welcoming experience for every guest.
- Maintain the gallery's impeccable visual standards, including artwork display, rotation, and presentation.
- Manage inventory, artwork logistics, and daily operational standards in a fast-paced environment.
- Plan and host special events, VIP appointments, exhibitions, and industry functions.
- Collaborate with ownership and the broader leadership team on marketing initiatives, exhibitions, and growth strategy.
- Report on sales, team performance, and gallery goals to ownership.
What We're Looking For
- Proven Sales Track Record: Demonstrated success in luxury retail, fine art sales, or high-end consultative selling, with a history of building client relationships and closing significant sales.
- Management Experience: Hands-on experience hiring, training, and leading a sales or retail team to meet and exceed goals.
- Team Leadership: A natural leader who motivates, coaches, and elevates the people around them. Someone others want to follow.
- Art Expertise: A genuine passion for and strong knowledge of fine and contemporary art, with the ability to speak confidently about artists, techniques, and movements.
- Professional Presence: Polished, charismatic, and comfortable engaging with high-net-worth individuals and international clientele.
- Operational Command: Detail-oriented and capable of running gallery operations, inventory, and daily standards smoothly.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work a schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and peak tourism periods.
Previous experience directing or managing a fine art gallery, luxury retail store, or high-end sales team is highly preferred. Above all, we're looking for a leader with the sales instincts, management skill, and drive to take this gallery to the next level.
How to Apply
If you are a proven sales leader who thrives in a world-class gallery setting and is ready to lead an exceptional team, we want to hear from you.
