Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Structural Steel Estimator/Project Manager to join our team. This pivotal role combines expert estimating skills with strong project management capabilities to deliver successful commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects involving structural steel. The ideal candidate will be passionate about precision, cost control, and client communication, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Duties
- Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately estimate material requirements and labor costs for structural steel projects.
- Utilize estimating software to prepare detailed bids, proposals, and cost analyses that reflect project scope and client expectations.
- Oversee the Detailing and coordination phase of the project with customer and detailer.
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams through clear communication to negotiate pricing, resolve issues, and ensure alignment on project goals.
- Oversee the procurement of materials by estimating quantities accurately using blueprint reading skills and managing material cost estimating processes.
- Monitor construction site activities to ensure adherence to safety standards, project schedules, and budget constraints while reviewing construction drawings for accuracy.
- Use construction management software to schedule tasks, track progress, generate reports, and facilitate seamless project execution from start to finish.
Experience
- Proven experience in managing heavy civil or commercial steel construction projects with a strong background in structural steel estimating.
- Extensive knowledge of blueprints reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction documents related to structural steel.
- Proficiency with excel and other construction estimating software, and production and project management software such as Tekla Powe Fab.
- Demonstrated ability in cost management including material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and controlling project budgets effectively.
- Strong negotiation skills for securing competitive pricing with suppliers and subcontractors while maintaining quality standards.
- Familiarity with construction site operations and safety protocols gained through hands-on experience on active job sites.
- Excellent communication skills for client interactions, team coordination, and presenting detailed estimates clearly and confidently.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
