Responsibilities
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of procedures including restorations, extractions, root canals, and prosthodontics.
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment following infection prevention management protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) ensuring adherence to dental sterilization procedures and radiation safety standards.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide patient care by taking vital signs, explaining procedures, and addressing patient questions with professionalism and empathy.
- Support patient management through scheduling appointments using patient management software and maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment by processing dental instruments, managing dental equipment, and adhering to infection control standards including aseptic techniques.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant or in a similar dental clinic setting with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Familiarity with dental terminology, medical terminology, and dental assisting best practices.
- Proficiency in using dental software such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for scheduling, record keeping, and patient management.
- Ability to operate dental X-ray machines safely while following radiation safety protocols.
- Knowledge of infection prevention management, sterilization procedures, and healthcare infection control expertise.
- Strong understanding of anatomy relevant to oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively assist patients of all ages and support the dental team with four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Certification in Dental Radiography or X-ray certification is preferred; ongoing training in medical imaging is a plus.
- Ability to perform clinical duties such as taking vital signs, assisting with oral surgery procedures, and supporting endodontic treatments confidently.
