Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Optometric Clinic Assistant to join our team. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in patient care and ophthalmic procedures within a dynamic clinical environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational abilities, a passion for healthcare, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient confidentiality and safety.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and assist with the intake process, including collecting medical histories and updating patient information in electronic health records (EHR).
- Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity and color vision to support ophthalmic examinations.
- Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment, including tonometry devices, visual field perimetry, retinal photography, and OCT, ensuring accurate data collection for eye assessments.
- Maintain proper sterilization and aseptic techniques when handling medical equipment to ensure patient safety and compliance with health regulations.
- Manage medical records with precision, ensuring all documentation aligns with HIPAA regulations and clinic policies.
- Provide exceptional patient service by addressing inquiries, scheduling appointments, and supporting patients throughout their visit.
- Assist patients in contact lens use
- Maintain schedule and proper work-flow in clinic
- Support front desk operations, including managing electronic health records (EHR) efficiently, taking payments, and making/confirming appointments
- Exceed patient expectations for every encounter
- Work well on a team, but be self-motivated while working alone
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a medical office or clinical setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and maintaining strict patient confidentiality at all times.
- Familiarity with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as tonometry devices, and ophthalmic imaging tools.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to eye care and physiology knowledge relevant to optometry.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EHR) management systems is desired
- Excellent communication skills combined with a professional demeanor focused on patient service and care.
- Exceptional customer-service skills
- Flexibility to support pediatric or aging patients and adapt to diverse clinical needs
- Be able to work posted business hours and self-transport to either clinic location
