Classroom Co-Teacher (Part-Time Preschool Teacher)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (September–early June). Occasional after-care hours until 2:00 p.m. may be required. Staff also participate in four classroom preparation days before the school year and one classroom clean-up day after the school year ends.
Benefits: Additional $150 monthly benefit stipend. Paid parking in Old Town.
About the Position
Washington Street United Methodist Church Preschool is seeking a warm, enthusiastic Co-Teacher to join our play-based early childhood program. Co-Teachers work collaboratively to create a nurturing, engaging classroom that supports each child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through hands-on learning. Our curriculum is guided by Creative Curriculum Goals & Objectives and emphasizes learning through play.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or significant experience working with young children.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Warm, patient, dependable, and passionate about working with preschool-aged children.
- Ability to meet all Virginia licensing requirements, including background checks, health forms, CPR/First Aid certification, and required professional development.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with your co-teacher to plan and implement developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences.
- Foster children's language, literacy, math, science, creativity, social-emotional growth, and independence.
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Supervise children at all times and support positive behavior using developmentally appropriate guidance.
- Observe and assess children's development to inform instruction and communicate progress with families.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and volunteers.
- Participate in parent conferences, newsletters, staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Uphold the mission, policies, and professional standards of Washington Street UMC Preschool.

Pay: $22.50 - $25.00 per hour
