Position Summary:
The Warehouse Wave Coordinator supports daily warehouse execution by releasing, sequencing, and monitoring work through the warehouse management system and on the floor. This role ensures work is prioritized based on route timing, dispatch cutoffs, inventory availability, labor capacity, and operational constraints.
This position is in a food storage facility and it is a cold environment. Steel or composite toed boots are a requirement.
The Wave Coordinator serves as the real-time communication and visibility point for work flowing through receiving, put-away, picking, packing, staging, loading, relabeling, slacking, and exception handling. The role helps the Manager on Duty identify bottlenecks, adjust priorities, and escalate risks before they impact service, labor efficiency, or dispatch timing.
Compensation: $21.00 per hour
Available Schedules:
- Monday-Thursday 11am-9pm
- Thursday-Sunday 11am-9pm
- Thursday-Sunday 8pm-6am
Key Responsibilities
1. Wave Release & Work Sequencing
- Release warehouse work in accordance with the shift plan, route priorities, dispatch cutoffs, temperature-zone requirements, and labor availability.
- Sequence picking, backorders relabeling, slacking, replenishment, staging, and loading work to protect outbound timing.
- Monitor open work queues throughout the shift.
- Ensure priority work is released early enough to avoid last-minute service risk.
- Communicate wave status and risks to the Manager on Duty and area supervisors.
2. Real-Time Work Monitoring
- Track progress of active waves against expected completion timing.
- Monitor order status, pick completion, shorts, rework, staging readiness, and load readiness.
- Identify stalled work, aging tasks, missed scans, inventory issues, or orders at risk of missing cutoff.
- Maintain visibility to what work is complete, what is in progress, and what is at risk.
- Escalate issues quickly to the MOD or appropriate supervisor.
3. Labor Visibility Support
- Compare released workload to available labor by area.
- Flag areas where labor appears over- or under-deployed.
- Recommend labor moves to the Manager on Duty based on workload and priority.
- Support hourly check-ins on plan vs. actual progress.
- Help reduce idle time, work starvation, and last-minute overtime caused by poor sequencing.
4. Dispatch & Service Support
- Track outbound readiness against route departure times.
- Coordinate with staging and loading teams to ensure completed orders are ready in sequence.
- Communicate late-wave, short-pick, inventory, QA hold, or rework risks that could delay dispatch.
- Support root cause capture for late dispatches, missed orders, shorts, and re-picks.
- Help ensure warehouse execution does not cause HDR delivery misses.
5. WMS Execution
- Use the WMS to release, track, and close work.
- Validate that WMS task status reflects actual floor progress.
- Identify system exceptions, task aging, scan gaps, incorrect priorities, or workflow breakdowns.
- Escalate recurring WMS issues to the MOD, inventory control, or systems support.
- Support manual tracking where system reporting is incomplete.
6. Shift Communication & Handoff
- Participate in pre-shift planning and shift huddles.
- Provide hourly updates to the Manager on Duty.
- Maintain a simple shift tracker: waves released, waves complete, at-risk orders, constraints, and open issues.
- Provide clean handoff to the next shift or closing manager.
- Capture recurring issues for DDS / daily operating review.
Candidate Profile:
Required:
- Warehouse or distribution experience
- Familiarity with WMS-driven picking or order release
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Comfortable working on the floor and at a workstation
- Strong communication with supervisors and associates
- Able to prioritize quickly
- Basic Excel / Google Sheets / WMS reporting skills
- Willingness to work shift hours, weekends, holidays, and peak periods and willingness to work in a cold, refrigerated environment
Preferred:
- Prior experience as a wave planner, inventory clerk, shipping clerk, lead picker, dispatch clerk, or warehouse coordinator
- Food, cold-chain, grocery, fulfillment, meal-kit, or restaurant supply experience
- Experience in multi-temperature environments
- Experience with ShipHero or similar WMS
- Bilingual in English & Spanish
