Title: Senior Project Manager
Location: Lenexa, KS
Duration: 12 months contract to hire
Pay: $60 - $80
Overtime is 1.5x
Expenses/Travel: all travel reimbursed
Position Summary
A growing commissioning team is seeking a Commissioning Project Manager to support projects in Lenexa, Kansas. The Commissioning Project Manager is responsible for the overall management, supervision, and, in some cases, execution of assigned building systems commissioning projects. Projects are expected to be completed within established budgets, schedules, and quality standards.
This role manages commissioning programs and projects, coordinates site visits, attends project meetings, and communicates with clients and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution. The Commissioning Project Manager also supports employee development through training, scheduling, mentoring, and staffing coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate all aspects of assigned commissioning projects.
- Follow established project management standards, expectations, and quality metrics.
- Manage proposals, contracts, and project agreements.
- Direct commissioning activities and project schedules.
- Coordinate and maintain commissioning deliverables and project documentation.
- Manage client service and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Create, monitor, and maintain project budgets and financials.
- Maintain accountability for overall project and program performance.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and consistent adherence to applicable quality standards.
- Lead and direct participants in the commissioning process, including owner's representatives, general contractors, and design team members.
- Serve as an independent third-party commissioning representative responsible for project success on behalf of the client or end user.
- Interface with design teams to support established project goals and requirements.
- Execute building commissioning and retro-commissioning activities as required.
- Mentor, coach, and supervise Commissioning Agents, Technicians, and other project/program team members.
- Provide recommendations to practice, operations, and technical leadership regarding employee training, development, and mentoring.
- Identify and resolve project conflicts while balancing the interests of internal and external stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary project/program contact and representative.
- Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure satisfaction with project processes and technical deliverables.
- Partner with sector and practice leadership to support business development strategies.
- Resolve project-related issues and respond to client requests and questions.
- Support business development efforts related to building solutions across various market sectors.
- Monitor project quality expectations and ensure deliverables meet established objectives and standards.
- Develop scopes of work and project fees to mitigate risk throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance and insight into project production and execution when applicable.
Qualifications
- Degree in Architectural, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in MEPF engineering, commissioning, or testing and balancing (TAB) required.
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience required for candidates without a degree.
- Industry-specific certifications recommended, including ASHRAE, ACG, and/or NEBB.
- Basic proficiency with project management standards and project execution required.
- Fundamental understanding of building design and construction principles necessary for successful commissioning project execution.
- Strong communication, organization, and project leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, design teams, and internal personnel.
- Demonstrated proficiency in all core competencies associated with the role.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing while working at a desk or computer.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to climb up and down an 8-foot ladder.
- Ability to carry up to 25 pounds.
- Travel required up to 25% of the time.
