Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic/Surgical Assistant to join our ophthalmology and surgical teams in providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, including experience with ophthalmic procedures, surgical assistance, and patient management within ambulatory surgery center setting. This role requires a proactive individual with comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and aseptic techniques to ensure safe and efficient surgical environments. The Ophthalmic/Surgical Assistant will play a vital role in assisting ophthalmologists and surgeons during procedures, managing patient records, and maintaining sterile environments to uphold the highest standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations and surgical procedures
- Preform preliminary testing (visual acuity, tonometry, refraction, OCT, etc. )
- Assist physician during in-office procedures and surgeries
- Maintain sterile technique and prepare surgical instruments
- Educate patients on procedures, medications, and post-op care
- Clean and maintain exam rooms and equipment
- Prepare patients for examinations and surgeries by explaining procedures, positioning them appropriately, and ensuring comfort throughout the process.
- Monitor vital signs during procedures, recognize signs of distress or complications, and respond promptly in accordance with critical care protocols.
- Document patient information accurately in EMR
Qualifications
- Experience as an ophthalmic assistant, surgical assistant preferred, but willing to train
- COA certification a plus (not required)
- Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology and instruments
- Strong communication and patient care skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced clinical environment
- Reliable, professional, and detail-oriented
