Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Pharmacist specializing in inpatient care to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in hospital pharmacy operations, with a focus on critical care, trauma, and patient-centered medication management. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality patient care within a dynamic hospital environment, ensuring medication safety, regulatory compliance, and optimal therapeutic outcomes. The Pharmacist will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical services across various inpatient units, including intensive care units (ICUs), emergency departments, and specialized units such as oncology and pediatrics.
Duties
- Dispense and review medications for hospitalized patients, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness based on individual patient assessments.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop and adjust pharmacotherapeutic plans tailored to complex cases involving trauma, critical illness, or chronic conditions.
- Manage IV infusion preparations and aseptic techniques to maintain sterile compounding standards in accordance with pharmaceutical regulations.
- Monitor drug therapy effectiveness and safety, providing clinical guidance on medication selection, dosing, and potential interactions.
- Ensure compliance with all pharmaceutical regulatory standards and hospital policies related to medication storage, documentation, and drug regulation.
- Utilize Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems for accurate documentation of medication administration and patient data.
- Provide education to patients and staff regarding medication use, side effects, and safety protocols.
- Precept pharmacy residents or students practicing in hospital medicine or critical care settings to foster professional development.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds within ICU, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or trauma centers to optimize patient outcomes through pharmacological expertise.
- Maintain proficiency in hospital pharmacy information systems (PIS) and pharmacy information management tools for efficient workflow management.
Requirements
- Valid licensure as a registered pharmacist with current state or national certification.
- Minimum of post-residency experience practicing as a pharmacist in an inpatient hospital setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in hospital pharmacy operations including medication dispensing, IV compounding, and aseptic technique.
- Experience working within Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers is highly desirable.
- Strong background in critical care environments such as ICU, emergency room, PICU, or oncology units with acute pain management experience.
- Knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to inpatient care.
- Familiarity with hospital pharmacy regulations including drug regulation standards and pharmaceutical regulatory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems and pharmacy information systems (PIS).
- Excellent patient assessment skills coupled with a commitment to patient service excellence.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining attention to detail in high-pressure situations such as trauma or emergency care scenarios.
- Strong communication skills for educating staff and patients about medication therapies and safety protocols.
