Training Specialist – Day Habilitation Program
The Arc of Jackson County is seeking a dependable and compassionate Training Specialist to work with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our Day Habilitation Program.
Pay: $13.65-$14.06 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 37.5-40 hours per week
Position Summary
The Training Specialist provides direct support to individuals participating in the Day Habilitation Program. This position helps individuals develop daily living, communication, social, safety, and community-integration skills while promoting independence, dignity, choice, and inclusion.
The person selected must also be willing and able to substitute on assigned daily bus routes when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Carry out individualized goals, training activities, and support strategies.
- Plan and lead meaningful activities based on individuals’ interests, abilities, and needs.
- Assist individuals with personal care, mobility, meals, and other daily needs when required.
- Promote independence, informed choice, community involvement, and appropriate social interaction.
- Monitor individuals’ health, safety, behavior, and general well-being.
- Follow behavior-support plans and use positive, respectful support techniques.
- Complete daily documentation, attendance records, progress notes, incident reports, and other required records accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe program environment.
- Participate in community outings and transport individuals as assigned.
- Substitute on morning or afternoon bus routes when needed.
- Follow all confidentiality, safety, emergency, incident-reporting, and abuse-prevention requirements.
- Communicate professionally with individuals, families, coworkers, supervisors, and other service providers.
- Perform other duties necessary for the safe and effective operation of the program.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Must be patient, dependable, respectful, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Must have strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
- Must be able to follow individualized plans, agency policies, and supervisory instructions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and the ability to meet the agency’s driver requirements.
- Must be willing and able to drive or substitute on daily bus routes as assigned.
- Must successfully complete required background checks, screenings, and drug testing.
- Must obtain and maintain required CPR, First Aid, and other agency training; training will be provided.
- Must be physically able to perform the position’s duties, which may include standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, assisting with transfers, and responding during emergencies.
